At first it was fascinating: that lo-fi sound gave the vocals a raw, authentic, almost rebellious feel. Now, however, it just sounds like we’re talking through an intercom: all crackle, no punch.
There are bands with fantastic sound, but this effect drowns everything out, reducing the vocals to indistinct background noise. Do we really want punk rock to feel like it’s stuck in an old condo system?
