None of the various elements of their songs sound particularly novel; the real secret sauce is the novel combinations of otherwise familiar components. One song sounds like the guy from the U.K. fake-punk Monks singing for the Silicon Teens, another sounds like Jilted John singing with the Sleaford Mods, a third sounds like the guy from the Monks singing with the Silicon Teens as they play a Petula Clark song, and a fourth sounds like the guy from the Sleaford Mods singing with Helen Love. This is the kind of record where you always think you’re about twenty seconds away from pulling the stylus off the vinyl, but you never do because you’re captivated by what might be coming next. Put this on really loud at a party and the crowd will leave thinking you’re a cat who really has their ear to the ground.
